In the last blog, we have reviewed the basic anatomy of the brain and learned some amazing facts about the functions of the brain.
Recap- in an average, we have about 70,000 thoughts a day- some of these thoughts are naturally occurring, while others are induced by some kind of information thrown at us everyday, every hour, every minute and every damn second.
Yeah, here comes the title of today’s blog- #TMI Too Much Information! (Credits to my lil’B)
There are many languages, many brains, many such 70,000 thoughts- most of which don’t necessarily stay dormant unlike some of ours. These thoughts trigger action, because remember (yup another recap)- thoughts are real because they are taken very seriously by our body to the point where we do react physically to them. So, the next ideal step for a person with a tendency to react often, would obviously be taking action.
What fascinated me while I thought about this is that every reaction of ours, be it mental or physical often creates information. The only difference is, while some of this information doesn’t make it to a lot of other heads (lack of marketing), and some information spreads faster than a dangerously contagious virus.
In our perspective- even though we are idle, we are bombarded with so much information coming from every direction through every Instagram post, every news show, every tweet, etc.
How do we tackle this information?
Or do we tackle it ?
Some of us don’t realize that we are being bugged everyday with such vast information, unless they stop aside in this rat race and think consciously.
(Well, now that you are here, we helped you finish the step of realization! Congrats dude!)
There are two ways to go about this situation of #TMI- either we avoid it or we absorb it.
You may want to go either way depending on what you are feeling like- remember there is no right or wrong answer and you know better about you than us.
How to avoid it? (ps- the following steps are very simple and we all know it- sometimes having them all at one place and time helps us follow better!)
Social Media Detox
Sign off your favorite apps for a short/long period of time. Majority of the information comes through social media these days- so it is to no surprise that we will be blocking out at least 50-60% of information this way.
Read and Store Digitally
If you end up liking any information you read, make a Google Drive folder and save the links or references. No hassle, no physical storage, no paper wastage- sleek and digital.
Don’t check phone first thing in the morning
This is probably the most hypocritical statement I have ever made Lol. However, I am proud to say that I have been trying to reduce this addiction of mine, and trust me when I say I feel so light and stress free. More often than not we tend to come across posts that could be on sensitive issues, which would disturb us subconsciously and start our day in a dull mode. Try to go straight to the bathroom and refresh. Once your day slowly progresses, you can start allowing information other than what you are interested in.
How to absorb it? The following steps are for enthusiasts who want to learn and know everything- well guess what, we love us a walking library!
Organize, organize, organize!
Organize the data that you are interested in to different Google Drive folders. As mentioned before, reduce printing (unless absolutely necessary).
Time it up.
Once you categorize the type of information you are interested in, give it a specific time (or tentatively) during the day. For instance, you could read world crisis news in the afternoon, eco-friendly tips in the evening while sipping away the mango green tea, etc. This helps particularly in how the information might affect your daily activities and thoughts. We do not want you to read about serial killers and murders in the morning, even though you are a horror-enthusiast.
Take action…
Or do something with the information you read. Write the novel you always wanted to write (fiction or non-fiction and yes, the world needs your book!), donate to the charity, start your blog, podcast, tutor students/elders, learn the piano, fix your relations, and yes take that tequila shot down my fella cause you are the best walking encyclopedia one would have ever met- by all means flaunt the shit out of it.
So there we go, simple yet complicated- as life should be and will be. All we have to do is to Stop, Observe, Absorb, and Stay Conscious!
Yeah, my bad for the long blurb, but thank you for making it to the end! Much love and virtual hugs! Until next time…
